Scientific research advisory boards
Grants are awarded to research projects of the highest scientific quality and relevance to patients and society. Longfonds uses a peer-review system to assess research proposals.
Scientific Advisory Board (Wetenschappelijke Advies Raad -WAR)
The Scientific Advisory Board (Wetenschappelijke Advies Raad -WAR), together with the Societal Advisory Board (Maatschappelijke Advies Raad - MAR), advises the Board of Longfonds. The WAR provides advice based on its professional scientific expertise. This may concern any matter related to scientific lung research that falls within the Council’s area of expertise.
Societal Advisory Board (Maatschappelijke Advies Raad - MAR)
The Societal Advisory Council (MAR), together with the WAR, advises the Board of Longfonds. MAR members contribute their expertise based on their lived experience as people with lung disease. They assess research proposals for their relevance to society and to people with lung disease, and help ensure that patients are appropriately involved in research projects.
Assessment
Scientific quality is the primary consideration when assessing research proposals. Relevance is also taken into account. The Scientific Advisory Council and the Societal Advisory Council provide their advice independently to the Board of Longfonds. All recommendations are supported by a clear rationale and submitted to the Board for consideration.
