Early-career researchers: here’s your chance to take your ideas further! Over three years, these grants help you build your own research niche. To be eligible for one of the three Junior Investigator Grants 2026, your research project must align with our Longfonds themes and priorities regarding causes, prevention, better treatment and cure of chronic lung diseases and their overall public health impact. More information can be found in the Requirements (see below).

CPBT Grant

One of our three Junior Investigator Grants is the CPBT Grant. Ombion CPBT is a national center dedicated to valorizing and promoting animal-free innovations and expertise. It aims to create new business opportunities for animal-free technologies and biomedical translation. One of our Junior Grants is specifically allocated to research that aligns with the objectives of the CPBT - Asthma & COPD Transition Project.
The goal of the Asthma & COPD Transition Project is to develop true-to-life culture models with improved predictability and reproducibility. This ensures more reliable, human-relevant results, contributing to the reduction and replacement of animal testing in research. Ultimately, the aim is to personalize this approach for each patient, allowing tailor-made treatments to be simulated and tested for effectiveness within a culture model.
If you are considering submitting a pre-application for this special CPBT grant, please contact us. We will connect you with the relevant Ombion CPBT project leader based on your project theme.

Are you eligible?

Check the Requirements below. Applications are open to researchers within five years of their PhD, with extensions following NWO-rules for pregnancy, parental leave and/or medical/specialist training. Both permanent and non-permanent researchers are welcome to apply.

Patient participation

Longfonds values research that aligns with the needs and concerns of patients. It is required that patients are involved in both the proposal development and research execution. Their input can enhance the relevance, societal impact, and quality of the research.
