Longfonds actively promotes collaboration within the scientific community. In 2026, we are again making a significant budget available: a total of €2.1 million for three research consortia (€700,000 per consortium). These grants support promising and innovative research aimed at preventing, treating, and curing chronic lung diseases. Funding is available for both fundamental and (pre)clinical research. Research into public health and prevention in relation to chronic lung diseases is also eligible for funding. A detailed explanation of the eligibility criteria and potential research themes can be found in the document Conditions Consortium Grant 2026.

Patient Involvement

Longfonds believes it is essential that research aligns with the needs and questions of people living with lung disease. Therefore, we require Involvement of patients from the very start—both in developing the proposal and throughout the entire project. Their experiences and insights enhance the relevance, societal impact, and overall quality of the research.

Note: Applicants invited to submit a full proposal will be matched with patient experts (people with lung disease) for a one-hour advisory online meeting. This ensures that each consortium can further align its research with real-world needs.
All details can be found in the document Conditions Consortium Grant 2026.
