Background

All research must be relevant to people with lung conditions. The patient perspective and patient involvement in scientific research therefore remain important areas of focus.

Areas of focus

The following diseases fall within our areas of focus:

Acute respiratory conditions with long-term effects are currently outside the scope of our research policy, unless they are related to one of the chronic lung conditions listed above, such as respiratory tract infections.

Scientific Research Advisory Boards

Research grants are awarded to projects of the highest scientific quality and with the greatest relevance to both society and patients. To ensure this, Longfonds uses a peer-review assessment system.

Scientific quality is the primary criterion in the assessment process. In addition, the relevance of the research to society and patients is taken into account. Based on reviews by national and international experts, the Scientific Research Advisory Boards advise the Board of Longfond.

These advisory boards consist of representatives from various scientific disciplines as well as patients.

Research monitoring

Research funded by Longfonds is monitored throughout the duration of the project, both in terms of scientific content and progress. Researchers are required to submit regular progress reports. The conditions applicable to each type of grant are provided when the grant is awarded. The Scientific Advisory Committee assesses the progress of research projects and provides recommendations accordingly.

Application and impact

Longfonds aims to raise awareness of the importance of scientific research among the general public and its donors. By accepting a grant, researchers also agree to contribute to communications about the research and to the dissemination of its results. This information may be used to support longfonds' marketing and fundraising activities.
